The Emergency Department at UCVH provides 24 hour a day, 7 days a week care for adult and pediatric patients with all types of acute illnesses or injuries. The department is staffed with Physicians or Mid-Level Practitioners with specialized training in Emergency Medicine. Our support staff includes Registered Nurses and Emergency Department technicians who are current in BLS, ACLS, and PALS. We also have TeleMedicine available for additional support.
We are an education center for MCPHS and FPUPA programs. Physician Assistant interns train to gain valuable learning experiences in our Emergency Department. Locally, we enjoy having School to Work students shadow in the department to assess whether pursuing a career in the field of emergency medicine or nursing is enticing. We work in conjunction with local EMS services to provide medical oversight and education for EMT-B and EMT-I personnel.
Whenever possible, it is our mission to stabilize, treat, and discharge our patients back home. In some cases, we are required to stabilize and transfer the emergent conditions that present to our facility to other facilities that provide the services that our hospital does not offer within the scope of services listed. We arrange transfers with patient and/or family consent while coordinating communication with the accepting facility. We work efficiently with the regional ambulance service and medical flight services for transport needs as the cases arise. We work collaboratively with experts in specialty fields when the patient condition warrants such a consultation. We are proud of the expert care we deliver as well as the state of the art equipment we have. We take pride in being the Emergency Department you can count on when you need us most.
